I know what I want to do, but it’s not possible..
We are born into this world with a combination of ideas, abilities, and curiosities unique to us, to contribute the life itself.
We may have been raised in environments that may not embrace the path the universe calls us specifically towards. Or communities unaware how to make real their own dreams, let alone yours. And that’s okay. We only know what we know. This world is so vast for anyone of us to know all that is possible - even today, discoveries about what is possible are being made.
With the wish for you to live the life you love, here are the perspectives that helped me overcome the thoughts that had stopped me from nurturing the life I love.
Responses to the thoughts that stopped me before:
It’ s not essential to do what I want to do. There are more important things.
You were given ideas, abilities, talents by life to contribute to life itself.
We share cells, atoms, DNA with the whole universe. We have a calling directly for us - meant for us - our life preparing us for it. There are curiosities, interests, and fascinations we keep coming back to. What energizes us is related to what really matters to us. What we dream of and keep coming back to. These are signs that it is made just for you.
Not doing what you love results in you and the people you love getting hurt.
When we keep ignoring it and don’t give it life, we lose our life energy. When we deny ourselves the thing that energizes and excites us, we become frustrated. We feel less esteem for ourselves - as we are not doing the thing we - and our soul values. We feel frustrated that we cannot do what is very important to us.
To fill the void in our esteem and spirit, we can end up seeking validation from others. Or seek cheap pleasure: food, drink, thrills, gambling, social media, and other dopamine. Or release our resentment fueled rage onto ourselves and others, via shame, anger, violence.
When do answer that call meant for us - and do it, we feel so alive. We feel purpose for living. We feel proud of ourselves. We feel grow into more of what we truly value. We take care of ourselves.
Some of the most beautiful and important contributions to our lives and the world came from people following the things that moved them.
I can do it later.
Death can come to us at anytime. Take a moment to recall the people you knew or people around you who passed unexpectedly. It could have been an accident, a taking, or just something completely unavoidable.
Growing up, I had known of people who took their own life. I had also known of incidents were life was take by accident or by injustices. For me, the life was shattered any reliance of prevention was the beautiful life of my high school friend Johnnel. His healthy, happy, loved, and successful life ended suddenly at 30 with a brain aneurism while playing tennis with friends. Unavoidable, unexpected, immediate. A normal day.
Tomorrows, next year, next decade, old age… are not guaranteed for any us of. There is no guarantee of a time to do the things we really want. Being alive is a blessing. Today is a blessing. A chance to use our life for what we truly care about.
Amongst the list of biggest regrets of the dying, is the regret of not doing all the things they really wanted to while they could have. The regret of choosing to delay what they wanted, to appease others, or to believe all would work out if they followed a golden path.
You being alive to read this is a blessing. If you died today, what gifts, ideas, visions would die with you. What if you were to have lived your life, only to realize you never scrapped the surface of your potential? Your full life? How would that feel?
Start now. Move forward now.
I don't have enough to get started or move forward.
This is the most abundant time in history to manifest our visions.
We have access to knowledge from across the world via books and the internet. We have many ways to get whatever ingredient or tools we need to make it. We have access to people around the world via the internet, groups, and more - whom we can learn from, message, and ask questions or advice from. We have websites and organizations where we can crowdfund money for ideas. We have access to listings or places were we can find things for free.
We have everything and more to take the first step and grow with.
I won’t be able to make enough money.
We can figure out how to earn money. No one makes money, unless you are the federal reserve or money printing company. Money is something we trade for other things we desire or need.
The fact that you are drawn to something means you feel it’s valuable. If you feel it’s valuable, it’s highly likely there are other people who would feel it’s valuable to. Maybe not always immediately around you, but almost always somewhere in the world. And you have all the tools in the world to find people like you.
Inspiring people to trade their resources for your offering is just a transfer of conviction. As you develop more of what you love, your spirit, understanding, goodwill, and abilities will provide you the conviction needed to inspire trades. If you ever try a sales role in which you must “sell” something you don’t believe in or dislike, you will immediately feel the difference in conviction and energy you bring.
As for the form of trading for enough cash, that is a separate variable to figure out. You can learn the art of forming offers and adjusting variables until they work out for you and the people you trade with. And just like anything, it may take iterations, listening, and time to arrive there.
It could take time to grow - so please grow it patiently. Review the things you spend money on or plan to spend money on. Are they truly essentials? Are they worth slowing down or preventing the growth of what you deeply care about? Sacrifice or delay purchases of non-essentials. Investigate ways to attain essentials and the benefits of non-essential pleasures with less resources.
Some experiments will result in profits, some may not. It’s okay. It’s all part of the process of learning and growing our energy. What matters most is growing your spirit, energy, conviction, passion, and clarity. And it will be well worth it.
And sure, you may be able to receive more money doing something else, but is it really worth it? Is it worth using your one and precious life, subject to ending at anytime, on anything you don’t really care about? Is it worth becoming skilled at something you hate and try to compete with people who are skilled in and deeply love it?
Balance purism of vision and contribution to your neighbors and the world. Ultimately receiving money is an exchange of help to each other. And if additional income is needed while you build, go for arrangements that help you attain the income you need while protecting the energy, time, and money you need for your goals.
I am not skilled enough to do it
If you recognize your skills are not where they need to be to make the quality of things you want, that’s a great observation. In that case, adjust the size of the first creations to get you started. Plan for learning, experimenting. Then the next step is to develop your skills, one at a time.
Reduce the amount of pressure to be excellent from the beginning. Give yourself time to learn. Just as you would break down large projects into doable milestones, do that for learning the skills you need or making what you want.
Compared to subjects you’ve hated learning about, you will find learning about the topics you care about so energizing.
And if there are skills you really need, but don’t have the time to learn them or don’t really want to learn them, then make a trade with a neighbor who has them. We all have different joys and talents to be able to help each other out.
It’s too risky.
Economies bust. Industries disappear. Federal budgets disappear. Company objectives change. Internal politics oust valuable staff. Companies shut down.
There is no job from an employer without any risk of income or challenges.
And, just about every role requires you to summon the best of yourself, so that you may be able to continue working in that role. And, so much energy is used in switching industries, roles, organizations, routines, etc. Especially when you’re doing those roles just to earn a check, but hate them.
There could be greater stability in mastery in what you deeply value and then figuring out how to apply it towards the betterment of the world, society, an organization, or an individual’s life.
I’m not supposed to do things like that.
We are all different.
Just because you are of a family, neighborhood, nationality, ethnicity, or creed. Doesn’t mean you just a replica of everyone else.
You have DNA unique to you. A call from the universe unique to you.
It's too late for me.
There are so many people who started in their later years and did very well for themselves. A quick search will reveal to you 1,000s of people around the world.
But even more important than how materially successful they became. This is your one life.
Do what really matters to you.
Be among the people who return to the earth content and proud of all they did. And not among the people who regret not having done what they really wanted.
The industry is too difficult to enter.
Every job will have its challenges.
And often times, you don’t need to be a member of the “industry” or be in a job, to do the projects you wish to you. You can start your own projects, your own organizations too - just at the people before you did.
Everywhere there will be suffering or frustrations, whether it’s the job, the commute, the customers, the team, etc.
What is truly worth suffering for with your one precious life?
Your dream, your visions, the things you really care about. Go for it.
I tried before, it wasn’t for me.
Those previous attempts were just experiments.
They may have hurt you or made you feel less than. They were clearly not the right fit.
You were doing your best. You tried a version for your dream. You are learning.
This is the process of learning and figuring out the collection of elements that we are most compatible with. Those arrangements had pieces that you liked but the arrangements as a whole were not what you needed.
Let's put on the hat of a designer.
List the elements you would want to keep in the next experiment.
List the elements you would want to change.
For the elements you want to change, describe what would be the version of each element you would love and be energizing for you.
Now arrange the elements you want to keep and the new versions you want.
That’s your vision board. This is what you are directing your brain towards finding or figuring out how to make.
Keep moving closer and closer to the arrangement that works for you.
It’s not they way I want it.
Let go of the idea that the form needs to be perfect.
Lean into what feels better. Try it out. After trying things, we can better assess what we really want.
We may realize some elements are more important than others. This ability to prioritize elements is crucial. It helps accept what could be amazing opportunities that may be imperfect but could evolve to become even better. Everything can evolve. You can steer how arrangements with others evolve. Your most desired elements can evolve as you do what you love.
Just focus on move towards better and better, in a way that is harmonious with all involved, including yourself.
